Becoming Ruby by Kathy Stinson6/27/2023 ![]() ![]() Kathy's most recent book, 101 Ways to Dance, a collection of short stories for older teens, may also garner the notice of the media as the volume's 14 stories each deal with some aspect of adolescent sexuality. Aimed at assisting preschoolers in identifying body parts, this picture book, which is celebrating its twentieth year of being in-print, had a pair of pages, the so-called "penis" and "vagina" pages, which attracted some media attention. ![]() Just prior to our initial interview session in the 1980s, Kathy's The Bare Naked Book had appeared. Since 2007 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the publication of Red Is Best, a picture book that has become a modern Canadian classic, I thought it an appropriate time to revisit Kathy. It's been more than 20 years since I interviewed Kathy Stinson for my "Portraits" column in Emergency Librarian while Kathy was on her first "Book Week" tour with the Canadian Children's Book Centre. ![]()

The Path to Power, Book One, reveals in extraordinary detail the genesis of the almost superhuman drive, energy, and urge to power that set LBJ apart. You see, ever since I stumbled upon The Deal a few years ago, Elle Kennedy has been my #1 favorite and go-to author when it comes to NA/sports/romance books. I’m not even kidding, the last time I looked it up (I would check pretty often, honestly) it didn’t even have a date for when it was going to be published. Imagine my surprise as I was browsing GR the other day and saw that one of my friends had started reading this book. So if my sexy brooding roomie wises up and realizes what he’s missing? I’ve got my hands full dealing with a new school, a sleazy professor, and an uncertain future. I’m not the kind of girl who chases after a man, though, and I’m not about to start. Fitzy has made it clear he’s not interested in me, even though the sparks between us are liable to burn our house down. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother.Īnd that his best friend has a crush on me. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. ![]() Grandville mon amour6/25/2023 ![]() ![]() Whether Bryan Talbot puts two hundred words on his page, or none whatsoever, there is little difference in how long you take to read them all, for the level of fine artistry and detail is evident throughout. The film version would be spectacular, as it is on paper. The fact we get a prologue here, then the initial title page, and many of the end credits and copyrights etc at the back, suggest this book is cinematic. Are they linked? What might their story be? And is there a darker part of the past yet to come out of some secretive hiding place, and cause even more danger and peril? But in the prologue here he bursts out of his quandary, and once more causes problems for LeBrock - this time by slaughtering some Parisian prostitutes. At least the main problem, 'Mad Dog' Mastock, was sentenced to the guillotine. The first book in this series didn't end particularly well for DI LeBrock, the badger who works for Scotland Yard. Summary: A return to the world of the badger detective - or is that detective badger? - with his nemesis fresh out the cage. ![]() Batman noir the killing joke6/25/2023 ![]() ![]() Looking to prove that any man can be pushed past.
